Director Dan Zukovic to have US premiere for latest film "Dark Arc" at 15th Edition of Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
Dark Arc, written and directed by Dan Zukovic, will have its US premiere as part of the Cinequest, San Jose Film Festival's 15th Annual Program of Maverick Cinema. Dark Arc is produced by Jeremy Dyson and Brendan Keown of Third Tribe Productions and Dave Barnett and Mitch Mayer of Dark Arc Productions. Dark Arc will play in the San Jose University Theatre March 10th at 9:15pm and March 11th at 7:00pm.
The feature film stars Dan Zukovic, Sarah Strange, and Kurt Max Runte, and is director Dan Zukovic's second feature comedy. Zukovic's previous film, the LA lensed The Last Big Thing, was a festival hit upon its release in 1998. It also gathered an enthusiastic following due to a series of successful broadcasts on SHOWTIME, the SUNDANCE CHANNEL, and the MOVIE CHANNEL.
An art-house comedy, Dark Arc tells the story of Viscount Laris, a modern-day eccentric obsessed by the power of art and visual imagery to mold the behavior and emotional responses of his victims. With his complicit female muse, Juxta, he orchestrates an elaborate series of 'visual events' conceived and executed for the sole purpose of destabilizing the life of ordinary, down-to-earth graphic designer Ed Smith. As Viscount's visual experiments escalate his manipulations begin to take on the cruel and sinister overtones that will draw all three characters towards the film's fateful climax.
The film was shot in Los Angeles and Vancouver, Canada and the director's vision required a melding of the high-end digital video technology of HD with the traditional 35mm film format. The "best of both worlds" approach caused a variety of obstacles in the post-production process but the careful planning and tedious labor paid off and Dark Arc represents one of the few movies to seamlessly combine film and HD.
The Cinequest Festival has been cited as one of the top ten US film festivals by Film Threat author Chris Gore. The festival, held in the heart of the Silicon Valley, has honoured such film luminaries as Kevin Spacey, Wener Herzog, Jennifer Jason Lee, Spike Lee and Arnold Schwarzenegger for their "Maverick Spirit".
Dark Arc is written and directed by Dan Zukovic and is Zukovic's second feature comedy. Starring Sarah Strange (Life as we know it, ReGenesis) and Kurt Max Runte (Little War). Producers are Jeremy Dyson and Brendan Keown (Hitler Meets Christ), and Dave Barnett and Mitch Mayer (The Last Big Thing). Geoff Denham is Director of Photography (Henry's Café).
The 15th edition of Cinequest runs from March 2nd to 13th, 2005.
